With Lieutenant Asbury H. Sallenger, USNR, he attached two surfaced U-boats in patrol from USS Card (CVE 11). He had strafed both submarines according to Sallenger’s report. Apparently seeing Sallenger’s plane go down, Sprague persisted in his attack. An extensive search failed to locate Sprague. Sallenger was rescued. Photograph released December 3, 1943.
