And I've since learned that minutes before they doused the lights at midnight two planes took off in parallel. One was a DC-3, the other was a Junkers Ju 52. In fact it was this Junkers Ju 52, photographed here at the wonderful Flying Legends show at Duxford. This craft is preserved in pristine condition by the Lufthansa Traditionsflag, and I'm proud to have seen her flying - even if it was in the wrong place.
