It offers some stunning views of the coastline as well as of the outer islands and passes a spot popular with the locals known as Whistler's Beach. The trail is fairly easy to follow as far as the opening of Ship Harbor, where you can stand on the shore line and look across at the people on the other side who are hiking the Ship Harbor Nature trail. From there, unless your a local, you may want to return back to the lighthouse the way you came, as the remainder of the trail is very hard to follow.
