At the end of the street, on the south side of View Street, is the Eaton's Department Store complex. The large Victorian building was originally the grand Driard Hotel (1892) which was purchased by David Spencer for his department store after the great fire of 1910. He later sold his department stores to the T. Eaton Company in 1948. The enitre complex was demolished for the construction of the Eaton's Centre mall development (1989-90)(now the Bay Centre). Some of the heritage buildings' façades that were demolished were partially reconstructed as part of the mall's exterior. 1200-block Broad Street in Victoria, BC, circa-1977.
