You and any number of others who might have been waiting for several hours crammed yourselves and your belongings into the boat. There was no schedule, of course, and if the water was too high or rapid, it might just not go at all. It's worth noting that, anxious as we were, most of the people with us were even more terrified. No one liked going across since very few villagers could swim.
