I've been trying so hard the past few weeks with no luck. Either it wasn't warm enough, wasn't dark enough, wasn't clear enough, wasn't late/early enough. Tonight I conceived that the stars wouldn't be so detailed, there was too much "junk" in the clouds. But, I knew The Milky Way would be there. I set off around 12:15 am for my drive down to Java to photograph, and that was still too early. 2:30-4:30 seems to be ideal. My tripod broke earlier in the day, so I was using an emergency $8 tripod from Target. The day seemed like it wasn't going well, in the photo sense at least. I would have liked to have stayed longer, possibly to get a time-lapse, but, there's no "base". It's just me on the side of the road, next to someone's farm land. Not ideal for a couple hours of photog. I was at an observatory, but, as I pulled in, I awoke the neighbors in their farm house, and they came out quite pissed off. Buffalo's surrounding areas are very taboo with anything to do with cameras, and would never believe I could take a Galaxy photo.... I would have most likely just been shot. So, I left. I was using SkyGuide, the app for cell phones that tells you where EVERYTHING is in the night sky. As I passed this set of trees along a corn farm, I noticed on the phone screen, it had a good chunk of the milky way across the farm. I knew the tree would be a great silhouette. Once warmer weather arrives, and the sky is clear, and clean, like the ground below, I should be able to snap some amazing photos of the sky. If you've never shot the night sky, I highly recommend it. I'm so happy to have finally gotten a picture of The Milky Way. I've been trying so hard the past few weeks with no luck.
