We decided to spend the day, at Karin's suggestion, at the Seurasaari Open Air Museum. This is a kind of folk museum with an emphasis on architecture. Basically, the founder - in around 1910 - set out to find interesting historic buildings that were being replaced or had fallen out of use and had them dismantled and shipped to an island in Helsinki where they were reconstructed as part of a museum. The result is remarkably interesting, particularly on a fine day like today. Many of the buildings are very small and so not really fit for looking in, but some of them were very spacious indeed and were open for access. These open buildings all had at least one member of staff attached to them. Most were enjoying reading in the sun, though some were on more purposeful tasks, including one lady who was sewing and this skilful spinner, working her magic with the wheel.
