Chelly Canyon National Monument, located in northeastern Arizona, has been home to members of the Navajo Nation for nearly 5,000 years and offers a unique opportunity to study the history of these tribes. The Navajo people continue to live, work, and raise their families in the rocky canyons surrounding the monument.

Canyon de Chelly National Monument in Arizona features spectacular formations of sandstone, which visitors may view from overlooks on the rim of the canyon.  The monument sits on land wholly owned by the Navajo Nation.  The park is operated by the National Park Service in cooperation with the Navajo, and members of the tribe live in the bottom of the canyon amid flowing streams and cottonwood trees.
