Hypericum, a flowering plant, is in a group of about 400 plants and, among them, Hypericum Hidcote is one of the most common cultivated varieties of them, producing a large number of medium-sized yellow flowers in May and June. Native to East Asia, it is evergreen in most winters.

Mahonia bealei, commonly known as Leatherleaf Mahonia or Beale’s barberry, is an evergreen shrub with large, leathery leaves, each composed of 9-13 spiny leaflets. Fragrant yellow flowers in loose, spreading to pendant racemes, bloom in late winter to early spring (February- April). Flowers are followed by ornamentally attractive, waxy green fruits which hang in grape-like clusters and mature to blue-black in late spring to early summer.
