Lexington, Massachusetts, USA - February 26, 2024: Buckman Tavern is a historic American Revolutionary War site associated with the revolution's very first battle, the 1775 Battle of Lexington and Concord. It is located on the Battle Green in Lexington. The tavern was built in about 1709-1710 by Benjamin Muzzey, and with license granted in 1693 was the first public house in Lexington. Although best known as the headquarters of the militia, Buckman Tavern is also noteworthy as perhaps the busiest of Lexington's 18th-century taverns. It housed the first village store in Lexington, and later, in 1813, the first town post office.

William Emerson, father of minister William Emerson and grandfather of transcendentalist writer and lecturer Ralph Waldo Emerson. n 1842, the American writer Nathaniel Hawthorne rented the Old Manse for $100 a year. The Old Manse The house is located on Monument Street, with the Concord River just behind it. The property neighbors the North Bridge, a part of Minute Man National Historical Park. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is open to the public as a nonprofit museum.

Steam cars were quiet and powerful, but expensive aa and trickier to operate than their gas-powered counterparts. Early gas cars were started with an inconvenient hand crank, which steamers did not require. But once Cadillac offered an electric start in 1912, gas cars began to dominate; most steamer companies were out of business by the early 1920s.A century-old steam car lacks the driving ease of a modern vehicle. aThereaas 30 minutes of preparation before you set off. You often need to add water to the boiler, and thereaas always time required to reach a temperature where youaave got steam to propel the car. A couple of gauges monitor steam and water levels, but the most important thing is braking. With nearly nonexistent traffic back then, they worried much more about acceleration than stopping.
