Its common names include Carolina horsenettle, bull nettle, sand briar or breir, Apple of Sodom, Devil’s tomato, radical weed and wild tomato. It has spines on the leaves and stems and very invasive. It bears white or light blue flowers with yellow centers, in summer from April to October. The flowers resemble those of eggplant and tomato and can be found on roadsides and pastures.
