Verona is a city on the Adige River in Veneto, Italy, with 258,031 inhabitants. It is one of the seven provincial capitals of the region, and is the largest city municipality in the region and in northeastern Italy. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Northern Italy because of its artistic heritage and several annual fairs and shows as well as the opera season in the Arena, an ancient Roman amphitheater.\n\nTwo of William Shakespeare's plays are set in Verona: Romeo and Juliet (which also features Romeo's visit to Mantua) and The Two Gentlemen of Verona. It is unknown if Shakespeare ever visited Verona or Italy, but his plays have lured many visitors to Verona and surrounding cities. Verona was also the birthplace of Isotta Nogarola, who is said to be the first major female humanist and one of the most important humanists of the Renaissance. In November 2000 the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture.

Legend has it that the monastery known as Panagia tou Melas (Our Lady of Black Mountain), later Sumelas or Sumela, was founded in the fourth century by Athenian monks named Barnabas and Sophronius. It was sacked in the seventh century, but rebuilt. It was richly endowed by the pocket Empire of Trebizond and by later Ottoman sultans. It's present form dates largely from the 19th century, when numerous monks entertained throngs of pilgrims, both Christians and Muslims, and presided over an important library. Trabzon/TURKEY.
A very suggestive winter scene in Umbria with the fog covering the valleys and stone houses of the medieval village of Gualdo Tadino, enhancing the beauty of nature and the pine forests. The Umbria region, considered the green lung of Italy for its wooded mountains, is characterized by a perfect integration between nature and the presence of man, in a context of environmental sustainability and healthy life. In addition to its immense artistic and historical heritage, Umbria is famous for its food and wine production and for the high quality of the olive oil produced in these lands. This church, now housing the Monastic Communities of Jerusalem, was consecrated as a Benedictine institution in 978 by Willa, Countess of Tuscany, who wanted to commemorate her late husband Hubert. It was a major landmark in medieval Florence. From 1284-1310 the Romanesque church was rebuilt in Gothic style by architect Arnolfo di Cambio, then between 1627-1631 it was given a baroque makeover. The campanile, which is Romanesque and Gothic, was completed 1310-1330 and its construction was managed by chronicler Giovanni Villani. Legend has it that Dante, who apparently grew up near here, saw Beatrice for the first time in this church.
