Leaves pinnate with often 5 broad, lobed and toothed segments, bristly; upper leaves with large inflated bases. Flowers white, rarely pink, 5-10mm, in large umbels up to 15cm across with 12-25 rays; petals of outer flowers very unequal; bracts few or absent. Fruit elliptical to rounded, 7-10mm, flattened and broadly winged.\nHabitat: Open woodland, banks and rough grassland.\nFlowering Season: April-September.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except the extreme north.\n\nGenerally the commonest umbellifer flowering during the (late) summer and quite variable.

Angelica, Angelica, Archangelica, belongs to the wild plant with green flowers. It is an important medicinal plant and is also used in medicine.
Stout tall, pleasantly aromatic perennial, to 2m; stem green, sometimes purple tinged, hollow and ridged. Leaves triangular or diamond-shape in outline, 2-3 pinnate, with large rather irregular divisions, coarsely toothed; upper leaves reduced to large inflated sheaths. Flowers greenish or cream, 3-4, in large umbels up to 25cm across, with numerous rays; bracts few or absent. Fruit oblong, 6-8mm, with corky wings.\nHabitat: Damp places, riverbanks, ditches, damp meadows, thickets and waste places, locally abundant.\nFlowering Season: June-September.\nDistribution: The Faeroes, Iceland, Holland, Germany and much of Scandinavia; naturalized in Britain, Belgium and France.\nLong cultivated as a drug plant.
