This nice Butterfly is quite common in the Netherlands. It occurs mainly on rough vegetation and grasslands near damp woods such as Forest Borders, Clearings, Hedgerows and Wooded Banks. This is the Second Generation. It flies from mid-July until mid-August. The Caterpillars feeds on Nettle (Urtica dioica). The species hibernates as a pupa.\n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands.

18 july 2023, Haute Yutz, Yutz, Thionville Portes de France, Moselle, Lorraine, Grand est, France. It's summer. In a grassy area behind a commercial area, a Map Butterfly is placed in the vegetation. The butterfly has open wings. A top view reveals very dark brown wings dotted with white and orange spots. This butterfly can have 2 or even 3 generations per year, which have a specific color. This butterfly is of the second generation.

Polygonum c-album is a common resident in the Netherlands. In the 20th century, its area of distribution underwent waves of expansion and contraction. This expansion is continuing at present, and the species can now be found all over the country.\nHabitat: The Comma Butterfly especially occurs in open deciduous or mixed woodland. There, it is usually seen in the lighter parts, such as in woodland clearings or at the woodland edge, on damp, rough vegetation. It can be found in parks and gardens in woodland areas.\nFlying Season: Polygonia c-album flies in one or two generations, the first from the end of June until mid-August.\nThe species hibernates as an adult butterfly.\n\nThe Species is quite common (for decades) in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.
