Asphodel is a perennial ornamental plant suitable for creating beautiful flower beds in the garden, also used in phytotherapy as a medicinal plant.\nSeveral species of perennial plants belonging to the Liliaceae family belong to the genus Asfodelo.\nThe best known and most widespread rustic species along the Mediterranean is Asphodelus microcarpus or Mediterranean Asphodel, a spontaneous plant with a rhizomatous root that originates bushes even more than 1 meter tall.\nThe light blue-green leaves, like those of Narcissus, are spatulate-ribbon-like and cover the stems only in the basal part.\nThe flowers, rich in nectar, are gathered in white spikes with a dark stripe in the middle. The central button of the flowers is composed of a long style and six stamens of a deep orange color.\nThe fruits are dehiscent capsules with three valves which, when ripe, open, letting numerous seeds fall.\nThe small and black seeds are very productive and are also dispersed into the environment by ants (myrmecoria dissemination).\nThe Asphodel blooms depending on the altitude, between March and May.
Oenothera lindheimeri or Lindheimer's bee blossom, clockweed, or Indian feather, is a species of Oenothera but used to belong to the genus gaura.
