A Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) on a perch at the San Jacinto Wildlife Area in Riverside County in southern California. Numbers of this nearly world-wide breeder fell precipitously in the 1960s from thinning of its eggshells from widespread usage of the insecticide DDT. Since the banning of that substance, this falcon has made a remarkable recovery and is now fairly common in some areas and has been removed from its endangered status. It is renowned for its aerial abilities as it preys mainly on flying birds. It has been measured in a dive at over 240 mph, making it the fastest of all birds.
Falco biarmicus or borni falcon, barni or lanario is a species of falconiform bird in the Falconidae family.

The Steller's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a common bird in the forests of the western United States. It is most numerous in dense coniferous woods of the mountains and the northwest coast, where its dark colors blend in well in the shadows. It normally lives in flocks except when nesting. The Steller's Jay's diet is omnivorous consisting of about two-thirds vegetable and one-third animal. Pine seeds, acorns, and other nuts and seeds, berries and wild fruits make up the vegetable part of the diet. The meat part of the diet consists of insects, including beetles, wasps, and wild bees. The Steller's Jay also eats spiders, bird eggs and sometimes small rodents or lizards. This Steller's Jay was photographed by Walnut Canyon Lakes in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.

The Peregrine Falcon, a fast-flying bird of prey, feeds mainly on medium-sized birds. This bird was photographed in a typical coastal habitat, where they are commonly found.

Female red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) on ground in winter, searching for food. The feathers on a red-tailed hawk’s upper leg can be hard to see. They’re obvious here because the hawk was walking. Note the bare lower leg. The rough-legged hawk, in contrast, is feathered all the way to the toes. Most owls also have fully feathered legs. The bushier a bird of prey’s leg feathers, the more powerful it seems. Female redtails can be distinguished from males by their larger size. A wild and free bird, photographed in a Connecticut nature preserve.

A captivating close-up of a Caracara (Quebrantahuesos) bird in profile, its sharp gaze fixed on the viewer. The shallow depth of field isolates the bird's striking features, highlighting its powerful beak and piercing eyes. This image captures the wild beauty and intensity of this fascinating raptor, native to the Americas. Perfect for nature publications, wildlife projects, or any project seeking to showcase the power and majesty of birds of prey.
