The long-nosed potoroo (Potorous tridactylus) is a small, hopping marsupial native to southeastern Australia and Tasmania. It is a member of the rat-kangaroo family (Potoroidae), and is closely related to the bettongs and quokkas.\n\nThe long-nosed potoroo is about the size of a rabbit, with a head and body length of 34-38 cm (13-15 in) and a tail length of 15-24 cm (5.9-9.4 in). It has a long, pointed snout, large ears, and sharp claws for digging. Its fur is grizzled brown or gray above and paler below.\n\nThe long-nosed potoroo is nocturnal and solitary. It lives in forests and woodlands, and feeds on a variety of plants, including roots, tubers, fungi, and insects. It is an excellent digger, and uses its claws to create burrows and tunnels.\n\nThe long-nosed potoroo is listed as vulnerable by the IUCN. Its main threats are habitat loss, predation by introduced animals such as foxes and cats, and competition with feral animals such as rabbits and sheep

The charred remains of a rat lie near the road in Littleton, Colorado’s Waterton Canyon. According to fire fighters at the scene, they got the call at 3:30am of a fire near the Strontia Springs Dam along the South Platte River in Waterton Canyon on September 21, 2022. West Metro and the U.S. Forest Service fire fighters quickly put out the flames which were climbing the steep canyon walls. According to fire fighters, the source of the fire was located at an electrical box, likely ignited by the rat chewing the wires and electrocuted. The body of the rat was relocated near the road by a firefighter, where it remained and later decomposed.

The brown rat (Rattus norvegicus), also known as the common rat, street rat, sewer rat, wharf rat, Hanover rat, Norway rat and Norwegian rat, is a widespread species of common rat. One of the largest muroids, it is a brown or grey rodent with a body length of up to 28 cm long, and a tail slightly shorter than that. It weighs between 140 and 500 g.Thought to have originated in northern China and neighbouring areas, this rodent has now spread to all continents except Antarctica, and is the dominant rat in Europe and much of North America. With rare exceptions, the brown rat lives wherever humans live, particularly in urban areas (source Wikipedia).\n\nThis Picture is made by a Bird watching Hut at Marken (North Holland), the Netherlands in Spring 2024.
