Oslo, Norway: Akershus Fortress (Akershus festning) - located on the Akersneset peninsula directly on the banks of the Oslofjord. Akershus was besieged nine times and came under German occupation during the World War II. Moored below the ramparts is the Alta, a Sauda class class minesweeper that served with the Royal Norwegian Navy from 1953 to 1996.

The original building dates back to 1299 when it was a rotal residence and castle. It was developed into a fortress in the late 1500's and rebuilt into a renaissance castle between 1637 and 1648. The site includes several magnificent halls, the Castle Church, Royal Mausoleum and government reception rooms and banquet halls. The fortress overlooks the entrance to the inner Oslo Fjord wjere it offered protection to the city.

Presently the Oslo Art Society headquarters. To the left the Anatomygården, dating from the 18th century - Christiania Torv, Rådhusgata and Nedre Slottsgate - Kvadraturen area.

These historical red-roof houses by the waterfront are a beautiful commercial waterfront district with famous shops, pubs, museums, and restaurants. The colorful district with iconic architecture with a dense town in the distance makes this aerially diagonal close-up special.
