An Argive princess, she was an ancestor of many kings and heroes, such as Perseus.\nIo was tied to an olive tree in Heraion, the holy temple of Hera outside Argos, and the fierce hundred-eyed dog, Argus Panoptes, was guarding her and keeping Zeus away. This international landmark, as seen on the external public-facing door of the baptistery, was designed by Lorenzo Ghiberti (between 1425-1452) and is an icon of the renaissance. The reliefs represent stories from the Old Testament. The visible heads are those of prophets. The doors displayed are now a copy of the original, with those being displayed in a local museum.

This is an original unsigned 17th century painting.  The artist is unknown but it is in the style of Sir Peter Lely (Dutch/British, 1618-1680).  A portrait of Anna Maria Talbot (1642-1702), Countess of Shrewsbury from 1659-1668 by virtue of her marriage to Francis Talbot the 11th Earl of Shrewsbury, England. Francis Talbot died from wounds received in a duel with Anna's lover, the second Duke of Buckingham.  In a beat-up gilt wood frame.
