The Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) is a smaller white member of the heron family. Once hunted for their beautiful plume feathers, egrets are now protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act of 1918. As a result, their numbers have rebounded. The snowy egret eats mostly aquatic animals, including fish, frogs, worms, crustaceans, and insects. This snowy egret was found feeding in a shallow marsh at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Redwood City, California, USA.
