The beautiful facade of the Palazzo Ducale in the historic heart of Pesaro, a town on the Adriatic coast of Italy in the Marche region. Built in Renaissance style in the 15th century during the government of Alessandro Sforza, it is currently the seat of the prefecture. Known as the City of Music and the City of the Bicycle, Pesaro was founded by the Piceni people during the Iron Age, to develop as an important center on the Adriatic Sea under the rule of Ancient Rome and later in the Middle Ages. Pesaro is known and loved in the world of music and opera for being the birthplace of the composer Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868), author of works such as The Barber of Seville, Guglielmo Tell and La Gazza Ladra.
