The Gothic revival Wray castle on the shores of Lake Windermere.Under the care of the National Trust now, it is not really a castle although its certainly looks the part! Towers and turrets abound but it was a private house when built.1840 saw its arrival . It was commissioned by a retired surgeon but it seems when his wife laid eyes on it she refused point blank to live in it. its architect drank himself to death before it was completed....a rather sad story but a very interesting building. The grounds of the castle are very extensive and afford really lovely country walks. There are great views also from the Castle itself.

Alderney island, Guernsey Bailiwick: Fort Tourgis and dirt road along Clonque bay - now in ruins, Fort Tourgis was an extensive fortress northwest of Saint Anne. The coastal fort , completed in 1855, was planned to accommodate a garrison of 346 men and was originally the largest of the Victorian-era forts on Alderney. It was also planned to mount 33 heavy cannons in five batteries along with four 13” mortars. The Victorian forts on Alderney were intended to defend the island and its harbor, which was intended to accommodate a British fleet that would counterbalance the naval power of France in the English Channel.
The old ruins stand proudly above the village that are Dundonald on the South Ayrshire town of the same name.
