The king penguin is the second largest species of penguin, smaller, but somewhat similar in appearance to the emperor penguin.

It's home to a large number of Gentoo penguins, a hotspot for Minke and Humpback whales which can often be heard from the shore, and often making hikes that offer great views of the surrounding Errera Channel.

The famous Boulders Penguin Colony in Simons Town is home to an adorable and endangered land-based colony of African Penguins. This colony is one of only a few in the world, and the site has become famous and a popular international tourist destination.

The beauty of remote South Georgia is difficult to describe. From majestic landscapes to the abundant wildlife with hundreds of thousands nesting penguins , the island is a paradise for a naturalist and a real joy for a plain visitor. Faraway and difficult to access, in the middle of very rough seas, it's worth every effort to get there.

Part of the King Penguin, Aptenodytes patagonicus, at Volunteer Point on East Falkland, Falkland Islands. As this species has an irregular breeding cycle, some of the adults are guarding eggs, while some young are still fully in their fluffy baby feathers, and others are moulting into their adult plumage.
