Altun Ha Mayan Ruins  (the ancient name is unknown) is the modern name in the Mayan language for these ruins which are part of an ancient Maya city in Belize.  Altun Ha is located about 30 miles north of Belize City and about 6 miles west of the Caribbean Sea.

The Temple of the Cross pyramid, in the foreground, is one of the biggest known structures of the ancient Maya City of Palenque, located in Mexico's southern state of Chiapas. After its abandonment, it was slowly absorbed into the jungle, before being rediscovered hundreds of years later.\nDespite extensive excavations in the past decades, archeologist estimate that less than 10% of the site has been explored so far, and that over a thousand buildings are still buried.
Wat Khao Phanom Phloeng is a 13th century temple located near the Yom river in the central zone of the Si Satchanalai Historical Park. The temple is located on top of a hill surrounded by forest, overlooking part of the ancient town. A stairway of 144 steps made of laterite blocks leads to the top of the hill.
