Cypress Forest
In central and southeastern Europe there are still some well-preserved lowland forests consisting mainly of oaks and hornbeams and many other tree species. These lowland forests are frequently flooded and have a high-water table. These forests are subject to significant human impacts, such as agricultural activities, construction of hydropower plants and dams, urbanization, climate change, land use changes leading to changes in water balance, summer droughts, fragmentation, and degradation.
