Olivença / Olivenza, Évora district / Badajoz province, Portugal / Spain, EU: Santa Maria Magdalena is a remarkable church located in Olivenza, renowned for its unique Manueline (Portuguese late Gothic) architectural style, reflecting the town's historical ties to Portugal. Built in the early 16th century by king Manuel I, the church is notable for its richly detailed stonework, especially around its main portal and windows, featuring intricate floral and maritime motifs typical of Manueline design - partly inspired by the Convent of Jesus in Setúbal and the Old Cathedral of Elvas. Inside, it boasts a spacious nave with elegant ribbed vaulting and a striking Baroque altar. Olivença is a historically contested town located east of the Guadiana river. It has been the subject of a long-standing territorial dispute between Spain and Portugal since the early 19th century.

The Convent of Christ, in Tomar, Portugal, belonged to the Order of the Temple and is one of the main monuments of Portuguese architecture.\n\nFounded in 1162 by the Grand Master of the Temple in Portugal, Gualdim Pais the Convent of Christ still preserves memories of those knight monks and their heirs in office, the Order of Christ, who made this building their headquarters. Under the infant Henry the Navigator, master of the order since 1418, the cloisters were built between the ambulatory and the Templar fortress, but the greatest modifications were made in the reign of John III of Portugal (1529-1557). Architects such as Juan de Castillo and Diogo de Arruda will seek to express the power of the Order by building the church that will reach its maximum splendor in the main doorway signed by Juan de Castillo and the two windows on the western façade, the lower one by Arruda and the upper one by Castillo, and the cloisters, two of them Gothic and six in the Renaissance style designed by Juan de Castillo.\n\nIt is a peri-urban construction, implanted at the top of an elevation that dominates the plain where the city extends. It is surrounded by the walls of the castle of Tomar. Both elements were declared a World Heritage Site on June 30, 1983, in addition to its remarkable heritage value, the Convent of Christ is classified as a National Monument (1910). For its classification as a World Heritage Site, UNESCO relied on two arguments; First of all, the Convent of Christ represents an exceptional artistic achievement in terms of the primitive temple and the buildings that are five hundred years old; secondly, it is associated with ideas and events of universal importance, since it was originally conceived as a symbolic monument of the reconquest and became, in the Manueline period, an inverse symbol, that of the opening of Portugal to the outside . Currently it is a cultural, tourist and even devotional space.

Tomar, also known in English as Thomar, is a city and a municipality in Santarém District in Portugal. The town proper has a population of about 20,000. \n\nThe town of Tomar was born inside the walls of the Convento de Cristo, constructed under the orders of Gualdim de Pais, the fourth grand master of the Knights Templar in the late 12th century.\n\nTomar is one of Portugal's historical jewels and more significantly was the last Templar town to be commissioned for construction. Tomar was especially important in the 15th century when it was a centre of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator, the Grand Master of the Order of Christ, successor organization to the Templars in Portugal.
