A 3-D computer illustration of the extinct marine echinoderms known as Caryocrinites, a type of cystoid (genus of the class cystoidea), that existed from the Ordovician period to the Silurian (which occurred from 505 to 438 million years ago). Caryocrinites is characterized by a 2.5 cm spherical body made up of plates with featherlike arms (pinnules) attached to a long stem fixed to the sea floor. The mouth and anus were openings in the polygonal plates. Though purely an artistic interpretation, the structure of the animal is inferred through scientific notation and fossil impressions of what the species may have looked like within the environment in which it existed.
Munida quadrispina is a species of squat lobster. The claws, chelipeds, are exceptionally long. There are small spines on the chelipeds. Monterey Bay, California.

The Purplish or Violet Lace Coral is Distichopora violacea occurs in almost the whole tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean (except Hawaii) from very shallow to more than 120m depth, facing into the current in nutrient-rich caves and areas beneath overhangs. The Common Lionfish Pterois volitans inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs from turbid inshore areas to depths of 50 m of the tropical Pacific Ocean from Cocos-Keeling Islands and Western Australia in the eastern Indian Ocean to the Marquesas and Oeno (Pitcairn Group), north to southern Japan and southern Korea, south to Lord Howe Island, northern New Zealand, and the Austral Islands. Often solitary, the species hides in unexposed places at daytime often with head down and practically immobile, using the pattern for camouflage as a hunting skill. \nThe species has recently invaded Western Atlantic and Caribbean coral reefs, and may become one of the most ecologically harmful marine fish introductions to date. The dorsal fins are venomous, but it is a popular table fish. Max. length 38cm. \nThis specimen from Triton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia hides in Antipathes sp. Lampreys are primitive fish devoid of jaw and parasitic habits. In the mouth, it is disc-shaped and functions as a suction cup.
Balanophyllia elegans, the orange coral or orange cup coral, is a species of solitary cup coral, a stony coral in the family Dendrophylliidae. An azooxanthellate species, it does not contain symbiotic dinoflagellates in its tissues. Monterey Bay, California.

Ptilosarcus gurneyi, the orange sea pen or fleshy sea pen, is a species of sea pen in the family Pennatulidae. It is native to the northeastern Pacific Ocean where it lives in deep water anchored by its base in sand or mud. It has received its common name because of its resemblance to a quill in a bottle of ink. Monterey Bay, California.

Indian Feather Duster Worm Sabellastarte spectabilis occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific Ocean from the Arabian Sea to Hawaii in intertidal and subtidal reefs in a depth range from 3-30m. It is quite a large species, with a tube up to 30cm and a single crown of about 10cm in diameter, feeding by filtering plankton and organic particles from the water column. \nAs a defence mechanism, these creatures are able to quickly retreat into their tubes, when disturbed by potential predators. It may come as a surprise, but Sabellastarte has eyes! \nCrowns of this species often have a banded pattern in a variety of colors including browns, red, white and yellow. Yellow like this specimen is the rarest color for this species. \nTengah Island, Indonesia, 5°8'44.496 S 132°0'46.254 E at 8m depth by night
