People visit the Douaumont ossuary, a memorial containing the remains of some 130,000 soldiers who died on the battlefield during the Battle of Verdun in World War I. It is located in Douaumont, France, within the Verdun battlefield. It was destroyed by the British forces and rebuilt in 1929 by the Irish Free State.
