The statue was unveiled and dedicated during the celebrations for the centennial of the Concord Fight on April 19, 1875. The statue was cast from melted down Civil War cannons. On April 19, 1775, the first day of the American Revolutionary War, provincial minutemen and militia companies engaged British Army troops at this location.
