The Winona Bridge was constructed in the 1930s as part of the original Route 66 alignment. It served as a vital link for travelers heading westward during the heyday of Route 66, connecting various towns and cities across the United States. As transportation infrastructure evolved, newer and wider highways were built, rendering the Winona Bridge obsolete for modern traffic needs. Eventually, it was bypassed by a newer bridge, and Route 66 was realigned. Despite being abandoned, the Winona Bridge retains its historical significance and charm. Its weathered structure stands as a reminder of the iconic Route 66 era, attracting history enthusiasts, photographers, and travelers exploring the remnants of this legendary highway. The Winona Bridge, now on the National Register of Historic Places, is located near Flagstaff, Arizona, USA.
