Dresden, Germany - June 11, 2010: Neumarkt square with Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) and Martin Luther Monument. The original Baroque church was built between 1726 and 1743, and was designed by Dresden's city architect George Baehr. It was destroyed after the bombing of Dresden in World War II on February 13, 1945. The church was rebuilt in 1994-2005 and consecrated on October 30, 2005. The Luther Monument was created by sculptor Adolf von Donndorf, and was erected in 1885. The head is formed after a clay model made by sculptor Ernst Rietschel for the Luther Monument in Worms.

Dresden is the second largest city on the River Elbe just after Hamburg.Dresden has a history as the capital and royal residence for the Kings of Saxony.  The city was known as the Jewel Box due to its' Baroque and Rococo city centre.  During WWII the British and Americans bombed the city killing approximately 25,000 people and destroying the city.  The ruins of the city remained for 50 years until being rebuilt between 1994 and 2005.  Dresen is one of the most popular cities visited in Germany.
