During the late Jurassic Period about 150 million years ago, dinosaurs congregated along the shores of a vast freshwater lake in what is now southeastern Colorado. They left behind large trackways in the mud which shows up today eroded by river waters as over 1300 dinosaur footprints in limestone along the Purgatoire River. Most of these tracks are by made by herding Apatosaurus or sauropod dinosaurs. Part of the Picket Wire Canyonlands, the tracksite is the largest dinosaur tracksite in North America.

A creek flows over the smooth limestone with the natural beauty of the countryside in this rural Texas Hill Country Park located at Inks Lake State Park, Burnet TX. The Texas State Parks attract over 9 million visitors a year.

Espada Acequia, also known as the Piedras Creek Aqueduct was built in 1731 to supply Mission Espada with potable water and irrigation. Mission Espada is one of five existing missions along the San Antonio River. Built by Spaniards to support their quest for exploration from New Spain (present day Mexico), they eventually became centers for spreading the Catholic faith to frontier Indians. The five missions within the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park flourished between 1747 and 1775, but still experienced raids by local Comanche and Apache Indians. Mission Espada is the only mission of the five that has continued to serve its surrounding community to this day.

Walking next to the tracks, a woman hiker explores over 100 new apatosaurus, allosaurus and duck billed dinosaur tracks made during the late Jurassic Period about 150 million years ago that were uncovered in 2021 in southeastern Colorado along the Purgatoire River, part of the Picket Wire Canyonlands in the Comanche National Grasslands. The site is the largest dinosaur tracksite in North America.
