Reykjavík, Capital Region, Iceland: Hallgrímskirkja (Hallgrím Church)  - an Evangelical Lutheran parish church of the  Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland (State Church of Iceland), the largest church building in Iceland and the second tallest building in the country after the Smáratorg Tower - built in 1945-1986 and named after Rev. Hallgrím Pétursson hymn poet.  The building was designed by the state architect Guðjón Samúelsson. The external appearance is dominated by the Expressionist style, similar to the Grundtvig's Church in Copenhagen (1940). The concrete pillars are inspired by basalt columns, a common motif in the Icelandic landscape.
