Petra, built around 300 B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, is the world famous archaeological site in Jordan's southwestern desert. The San Francisco Peaks are the remnants of an ancient volcano that erupted millions of years ago, shattering a large mountain and leaving a large crater and surrounding peaks. The tallest of these is Humphreys at 12,637 feet and Agassiz at 12,356 feet.
