It's a primarily Renaissance residence dating from 1458 and began as the home of Luca Pitti, a prolific Florentine banker. The Medicis purchased the palace in 1549 and it became the seat of the dynasties of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Napoleon used the palace as a base in the late 1700s and in 1919 King Victor Emmanuel gave the palace and its contents to the Italian people. Hitler and a Nazi delegation visited Palazzo Pitti and the associated Boboli Gardens for a tour in May 1938 and to attend a concert in October 1940.

The Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace), is a Renaissance palace in Florence, Italy. It was originally the town residence of banker Luca Pitti. The palace was bought by the Medici family and became the residence of the ruling families of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. It grew as a great treasure house as later generations amassed paintings, plates, jewelry and luxurious possessions. The palace and its contents were donated to the Italian people by King Victor Emmanuel III. The palazzo is now the largest museum complex in Florence.
The Medici family created the Italian garden style that would become a model for many European courts.

The external facade of the Uffizi Galleries in the historic heart of Florence, with the passage between Piazzale degli Uffizi (Uffizi square) and Lambertesca street.
