Buenos Aires, Argentina - People at the Plaza San Martin Square in Buenos Aires city. Plaza San Martín - San Martín Square - Plaza General San Martín (Buenos Aires) is the main green space in the Retiro neighborhood in Buenos Aires. Inaugurated in 1862 where a bullring had previously existed, it was declared a National Historic Site in 1942. It is surrounded by Santa Fe Avenue, Esmeralda, Arenales, Maipú streets, Libertador Avenue, Florida street and San Martín street. Monument to General San Martín and the Armies of the independence at the Plaza San Martin Square in Buenos Aires city.

In 1859  a Carrara marble statue representing the Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of  the French Emperor Napoleon 1, was  installed at La Savane Park in Fort de  France. In 1991, the statue was beheaded by a group of people and red paint was splattered on it as a reminder of her role in reinstating slavery.

It is composed of 33 councilors, elected every four years, who are responsible for drafting and approving municipal laws, overseeing the municipal government, and representing the interests of citizens. The Câmara Municipal do Recife is headquartered in Princesa Isabel Street ( Boa Vista), and is one of the main bodies of municipal administration. The building dates from 1920, originally a school.
