It was George Washington's headquarters between July 1775 and April 1776 during the American Revolution. The American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow became its owner in 1843. It is now administered by the National Park Service.

The Old Manse The house is located on Monument Street, with the Concord River just behind it. The property neighbors the North Bridge, a part of Minute Man National Historical Park. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 and is open to the public as a nonprofit museum.
