It was originally built in 1904 by a local bridge-building firm and was named after the nearby community of Pengra, which was itself named after a local family. The bridge served as an important transportation link for the area, allowing travelers to cross Fall Creek and access nearby towns. Like many covered bridges of its time, the Pengra Covered Bridge played a significant role in the development of Lane County and the surrounding region, facilitating commerce, settlement, and social connections. In 1987, the bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its significance as a cultural and architectural landmark.
