The village weaver (Ploceus cucullatus), also known as the spotted-backed weaver or black-headed weaver (the latter leading to easy confusion with P. melanocephalus), is a species of bird in the family Ploceidae found in much of sub-Saharan Africa. It has also been introduced to Portugal as well as to the islands of Hispaniola, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Mauritius and Réunion.\n\nThis often abundant species occurs in a wide range of open or semi-open habitats, including woodlands and human habitation, and frequently forms large noisy colonies in towns, villages and hotel grounds. This weaver builds a large coarsely woven nest made of grass and leaf strips with a downward facing entrance which is suspended from a branch in a tree. Two to three eggs are laid. Village weavers are colonial breeders, so many nests may hang from one tree.\n\nVillage weavers feed principally on seeds and grain, and can be a crop pest, but it will readily take insects, especially when feeding young, which partially redresses the damage to agriculture. The calls of this bird include harsh buzzes and chattering.

The violet-backed starling (Cinnyricinclus leucogaster), also known as the plum-coloured starling or amethyst starling, is a relatively small species (17 cm) of starling in the family Sturnidae. It is the only member of the genus Cinnyricinclus. This strongly sexually dimorphic species is found widely in the woodlands and savannah forest edges of mainland sub-Saharan Africa. It is rarely seen on the ground, but instead found in trees and other locations away from the ground.

Eagle grass (also known as eagle or eagle sedge), often grows naturally in the Mekong Delta. Grass has hard, tubular lower stem about 8-10 mm, lying horizontally in the mud. The stem is upright about 1 - 1.5 m high and has brown flowers at the apex. Eagle grass is quite easy to grow because of the characteristics of this herb, it is resistant to alum and requires little care or influence of pests, so it is quite popular. Only need to plant for about half a year, it can be harvested and especially after cutting, the tree will grow back many times without needing to plant a new one. In the harvest season, the grass is loaded on the boat, viewed from above, the grass boat creates a beautiful picture in the Dong Thap Muoi region.
