The museum is based on a collection of paintings made by famous Danish painters who lived in Skagen around 1900. The painters have a style similar to the one we find in impressionistic paintings. The style has been developed without influence of impressionistic painters, but later there actually was established a connection between some of the artists and the French impressionists. The museum has been researching in the connection together with Marmottan Musée in Paris and an amazing common exhibition has been held in both contries.\nOutside the museum stands a sculpture of the painter PS Krøyer and the author Holger Drachmann.
