The epidemic lasted until 1903, it explains why Grand-Bassam lost its status as capital to Bingerville in 1900. It is a sculpture park with more than 200 Buddha statues in a variety of shapes, blending Buddhist and Hindu styles.\nIt was built in 1958, it is now one of Vientiane's most famous tourist attractions.\nThis reclining Buddha is huge, 45 meters long.

In 1859 a Carrara marble statue representing the Empress Josephine de Beauharnais, wife of the French Emperor Napoleon 1, was installed at La Savane Park in Fort de France. In 1991, the statue was beheaded by a group of people and red paint was splattered on it as a reminder of her role in reinstating slavery.
