Elijah was a prophet. King Ahab was an evil king. Elijah was sent to tell Ahab that a drought would last for years until Elijah said otherwise. During those years Elijah obeyed God, going where God commanded and doing what He commanded. God empowered Elijah to perform miracles. Elijah tried to convince people to believe in God and turn away from worshiping Baal. He was eventually successful and the people turned to God. Elijah and his friend, Elisha, went to Jericho. They had to cross the Jordan River. Elijah parted the waters with his cloak. After they crossed, Elisha watched as God took Elijah in a whirlwind of fire up to heaven. Elisha was left behind to carry on. He became a prophet working miracles and spreading the word of God.

Solomon was the son of David and Bathsheba. He became king when David was too old and sick to continue. He was considered a “wise” king. For example, one day two women came to him with a dispute. The women lived in the same house and both had baby boys. One on the boys had died accidentally when the mother rolled over on him in the night. The two women argued over who the remaining baby belonged to. Solomon thought about it and ordered the remaining child be cut in half, one half for each mother. The real mother of the child said “No don’t kill him, give him to her.” Solomon immediately gave the woman the baby because she had proved herself his mother. Solomon built a temple to the Lord. Unfortunately, he did not end his reign as well as he started out. He ended up being disobedient to God. He had multiple wives and concubines, he worshiped idols, and attempted to kill a man named Jeroboam. After Solomon died, his son Solomon became king.

King Nebuchadnezzar trained Daniel and his three friends for duty in the royal court. They refused to eat what the others ate. They ate and drank only healthy things and after training they were healthier than anyone else. At the end of three years, the four young men joined the royal court. One night, Nebuchadnezzar had a dream. Daniel interpreted the dream for him and he was appointed him head of all the royal court. The king commanded that everyone worship a statue he built. When Daniel’s friends (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) refused to do so. They were arrested and placed in the fiery furnace. God saved them by sending an angel to protect them. The king saw the fourth man and knew that God had intervened. He released them and praised God. The king became sick and Belshazzar, his son, replaced him as king. He worshiped idols. God wrote a message on the wall and Daniel interpreted it. Daniel told him the message said he would die soon because of his disobedience. Belshazzar died and Darius became king. Darius promoted Daniel. The officials became jealous and arranged for Daniel to be placed in the lion’s den. God protected him. Darius declared that everyone worship the God of Daniel.
