Isaac and Rebekah had twin boys, Jacob (Rebekah's favorite) and Esau (Isaac’s favorite). Jacob offered Esau stew in exchange for Esau’s birthright. Esau took the deal promising Jacob that he would turn over his rights as firstborn son. Isaac was old and blind. He planned to give his final blessing to his firstborn son Esau. Rebekah and Jacob tricked Isaac into giving the blessing to Jacob instead. Rebekah used goat skins to disguise Jacob and make Isaac think he was Esau. The plan worked. When Esau found out he was very angry and decided to kill Jacob. Rebekah overheard Esau’s plan and sent Jacob to her brother Laban’s. One night, Jacob dreamed about a stairway reaching to heaven, with angels going up and down. The Lord was standing before him and promised many descendants. At Laban’s, Jacob fell in love with Rachel. He agreed to work seven years for Laban to marry Rachel, his daughter. Rachel’s older sister, Leah was not married. Laban tricked Jacob into marrying Leah and forced Jacob to work seven more years to marry Rachel. While in Haran, Jacob had eleven sons. Rachel birthed one of them, Joseph--Jacob’s favorite. Jacob wanted to return to Canaan. Laban tried to stop them, but Jacob still left. Jacob and Esau reconciled. Rachel delivered a twelfth son to Jacob, Benjamin. Rachel died when the baby was born. Jacob returned to the home of his father. Isaac died later at the age of 180 and was buried by his sons, Jacob and Esau.
