The Islamic Mataram Kingdom is in Kotagede, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Big cities once ruled almost the entire island of Java. We can still find traces of the legacy of the Mataram Kingdom in this area, such as the ruins of forts, the remains of buildings, and the graves of the founders of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom. Kotagede is proof of the presence of the Mataram Kingdom civilization in Yogyakarta. The history of Kotagede can be traced to the story of Sultan Hadiwijaya or known as Jaka Tingkir, the founder of the Panjang Kingdom in Central Java. In the 16th century, the island of Java was controlled by the Panjang Sultanate which was based in Central Java. Sultan Hadiwijaya, who at that time was the ruler, gave Alas Mentaok (alas = forest) to Ki Gede Pemanahan as a gift for his success in conquering the kingdom's enemies. After that Ki Gede Pemanahan with his family and followers moved to Alas Mentaok and founded a small village there.
