People visit the Douaumont ossuary, a memorial containing the remains of some 130,000 soldiers who died on the battlefield during the Battle of Verdun in World War I. It is located in Douaumont, France, within the Verdun battlefield. During the 300 days of the Battle of Verdun (21 February 1916 -€“ 19 December 1916) at least 230,000 men died, though some estimates are much higher.

The Hotel de Ville took 13 years to build and was completed in 1784. In former times it was the Archbishop's Palace. Parts of it date back to medieval times though it has been improved at various times over the years. Its present appearance is due to renovations in 1771 by Archbishop Ferdinand Maximilien Mériadec de Rohan (hence the name).

Dublin, Ireland - February 2, 2019: the front elevation / facade of the General Post Office on O'Connell Street in Dublin's city centre.  The building was designed by Francis Johnson in the neoclassical Greek Revival style and completed in 1818.  It is the headquarters of An Post, the government owned national postal service.  During the 1916 Easter Rising, a pivotal moment in the struggle for Irish independence from Great Britain, the building became the headquarters for the rebellion.  It was destroyed by the British forces and rebuilt in 1929 by the Irish Free State.
