The Afaq Khoja (or Aba Khoja) Mausoleum is the holiest Muslim site in Xinjiang. It is located in Haohan Village, 5 km north of Kashgar. Built around 1640, the shrine contains the tombs of five generations of the Afaq family, including its most famous member Master Afaq Khoja, a religious and political leader of the XVII century. Kashgar is an oasis city in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region, near the border with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The city has with over 2000 years of rich history consequence of being a strategic trading city on the Silk Road between China, the Middle East and Europe. It is inhabited by several ethnic minorities including the Muslim Uyghurs that often clash and revolt against the central power.
