The High Coast World Heritage Site area displays the on-going process of glacial rebound, by which the crust recovers from the previous depression by the inland ice sheet. In the landscape, the successive, relative lowering of the sea level is expressed through the formation of shoreline features. The highest situated field of wave-washed boulders reaches c. 260 metres above sea level, whereas the highest shoreline in the area is recorded at 286 metres.
