Tot 35-39mm, Ab 25-33mm, Hw 17-24mm. Average size and build for a Spreadwing.\n\nThe most widespread and numerous Lestes in many areas, probably because it is less partial to ephemeral habitats.\n\nOccurrence:\nOne of the commonest damselflies in most of Northern Europe across to japan, but (largely) absent from most of the south.\n\nHabitat:\nAlmost any standing water with ample reed-like vegetation. May be more numerous at recent shallow or acidic sites, but not specific  to pioneer, ephemeral or bog-like conditions.\n\nFlight Season:\nGenerally from mid-May to mid-October, peaking in August. Most emergence tends to be a week later than L. dryas.\n\nThis is a common Species in the Netherlands.

General: Common by still waters in most of Europe. Easily recognized by its large size, brown body and the black wing spots for which it is named.\nTot 40-48mm, Ab 27-32mm, Hw 32-40mm.\nMales heave a powerful, aggressive flight and frequently perch on stakes overlooking the water.\nHabitat: Most still waters, preferably with well developed vegetation, and can be very numerous on acidic lakes.\nFlight Season: From late April to mid September, but most abundant in early summer.\nDistribution: Widespread and abundant in much of range, across temperate Eurasia and North America. In the past was known to have massive migrations.\n\nThis is a common Species in the described Habitats in the Netherlands.\nThe Picture is made in the Wieden (Overijssel, the Netherlands) in mid June of 2023.

The scarce chaser is a species of dragonfly. The adult male has a bright blue abdomen with patches of black, while the adult female and juvenile male each have a bright orange abdomen. It is about 45 mm in length with an average wingspan of 74 mm. It is distributed throughout Europe
Libelle
Tot 34-39mm, Ab 20-26mm, Hw 23-31mm.\nA familiar dragonfly in much of our area. Mature males are easily identified by their all-black legs and slightly clubbed, blood-red abdomen.\nOccurrence: \nGenerally common throughout, and among the commonest dragonflies in large parts of Europe, east to Siberia. Expending northwards in the United Kingdom.\nHabitat:\nMost waters with lush marshy vegetation, but generally avoids running or acid waters. Sites are often eutrophic and permanent, but also breeds in seasonally wet swamps.\nFlight Season:\nSeen as early as April and may in Turkey and  northern Africa, but in northern Europe from early June; most abundant in August, although some may persist well into November.\n\nThis is the most common Darter in the Netherlands.

General: A large, pale blue male of this species, aggressively defending a garden pond or small natural pool, is a familiar sight in much of our area.\nThe abdomen shape and four large black areas at the wing bases instantly distinguish this species.\nTot 39-48mm, Ab. 22-31mm, Hw 32-38mm.\nHabitat: A wide range of mostly stagnant waters, especially favouring those that are small, shallow, sunny and bare, such as cattle drinking pools or quarry lakes.\nFlight Season: From late April to mid September, most abundant in May and June.\nDistribution: Among the commonest species in much of Europe, extended to central Asia. A strong flier that is often the first species to claim newly created or cleared habitats.\n\nThis Picture is made during a Vacation in Bulgaria in May 2018.
