They are all native to South America although some have become naturalized in the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Madeira and the Canary Islands. Almost all of the species are restricted to one of two distinct centers of diversity, one in central Chile, the other in eastern Brazil. Species of Alstroemeria from Chile are winter-growing plants while those of Brazil are summer-growing.\nAlstroemeria, allgemein als peruanische Lilie oder Lilie der Inkas bezeichnet, ist eine Gattung von Blütenpflanzen in der Familie der Alstroemeriaceae. Sie sind alle in Südamerika beheimatet, obwohl einige in den USA, Mexiko, Australien, Neuseeland, Madeira und den Kanarischen Inseln eingebürgert wurden. Fast alle Arten sind auf eines von zwei unterschiedlichen Diversitätszentren beschränkt, eines in Zentralchile und das andere in Ostbrasilien. Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)
Many small, white flowers of the Common Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), comprising a single inflorescence, growing in the margins of an agricultural field in central Scotland. The species is native to many areas in the northern hemisphere and has been used by many peoples both to feed livestock and because its essential oils contain many medicinal properties and include the painkiller aspirin.
