The Dottyback Pseudochromis fuscus has several common names, like Yellow, Brown or Dusky Dottyback, as the coloration varies from a bright yellow to light brown with yellow and purple highlights. Unlike many fish species whose colors dull with age, the coloration differences are due mostly to diet. \nThe species occurs in the tropical Indo-Pacific from Sri Lanka east to Vanuatu; north to at least Hong Kong and the Ryukyu Islands; south to the central coast of Western Australia and the southern Great Barrier Reef in a depth range from 2-30m, max. length 10cm. The species is found among corals of subtidal lagoon and seaward reefs, also in crevices and ledges, usually in association with branching corals. \nTriton Bay, West Papua Province, Indonesia \n3°54'3.384 S 134°6'26.448 E at 14m depth
